The challenge
A new public garden on a site that had been irrigated like a European park for two decades, with the resulting water bill that brought the project to NAS in the first place. The brief: cut water use by half without losing visual presence in the high season.
The solution
A new substrate of decomposed granite over engineered drainage, planted with a native + adapted Mediterranean palette — olive, carob, lavender, oleander, agave, cypress. Subsurface drip on a smart controller. The garden now uses 60% less water than the lawn it replaced and reads as a richer landscape.
